Adding a 1 GB RAM Module Will Improve Your Computer’s Performance

October 28, 2010

A lot of computers are quite slow and would benefit from having a little bit of extra RAM in them.  Adding as little as a 1 GB RAM module can make a big difference.  In this article I will teach you how to do it.  Even if you’ve never worked on computers before, you can install a 1 GB RAM module without too much difficulty.

It’s important that you purchase a 1 GB RAM module that matches the RAM that is currently in your computer.  The best way to make sure you make the right purchasing decision is to visually inspect the RAM that is currently in the computer.  The numbers will be printed on the RAM.  You want to find out if you need to purchase a 1 GB RAM DDR2 or a 1 GB DDR RAM module.

After you have purchased the RAM, it’s time to install it.  This should only take about 10 minutes.  The first step is to unplug the computer from the wall so you don’t get shocked while working in the computer.  The next step is to remove the screws that are holding the access panel in place and take the access panel off.  The next step is to discharge any static charge that your body may have built up by touching a solid metal portion of your computer.  Make sure that you do this before you touch any RAM modules or the motherboard or you may damage them.

Now that you’re looking at the inside of the computer, you’re ready to install the new chip.  To do this, simply take it out of the package and gently press it into the slot.  After that, snap the retaining clips on both ends of the RAM module.  Finally, put the access panel back on and secure it with its retaining screws.  That’s all there was to that.  I told you it was an easy job didn’t I?
