Tweeting, re-tweeting and Twitter, words now a part of everyday language for millions, yet to others these terms sound like something from a Saturday morning cartoon. Countless bloggers and members of the social networking intelligence have contributed their two cents to the cyber discussion, yet it still remains a challenge when explaining Twitter to Grandma or anyone else who is not a member of the 24/7 connected community.

The earliest definitions of Twitter referred to it as a micro-blog, blogging for the word impaired or for those who simply like to parse their words. This is not a particularly helpful definition for Granny, in that it in implies knowledge of what blogging is. The whole concept of blogs, rather super-sized or mini, may stump anyone who simply cannot understand why so many are so interested in the daily mundane activities of the masses.

Moving on, and assuming that Grandma is remotely familiar with the world of laptops and cell phones, explaining Twitter to Grandma may be easy. One can simply call it an easy way to use the computer or cell phone to keep in touch with up to the minute news as well as sharing your thoughts and activities with a whole bunch of people at the same time. If your Gran is old enough to have ever experienced party line phones, you might say that it is the modern version of being able to listen in to what is happening with literally millions of people worldwide. The nice difference with Twitter, compared to the party phone lines, is that you can choose to listen to only the people you want to listen to. If you don’t wnt to hear the ramblings of crazy Lucy two streets over you don’t have to. With Twitter, you select who’s “tweets” you wish to receive.

As to why all of this tweeting is going on and why it is so fascinating to so many, here is another analogy. Many of Grandma’s generation are big fans of the tabloid and celebrity gossip type magazines and for many people today, Twitter serves as a personal gossip rag with the latest celebrity dish being served up as it happens. If Grandma is a fan of Tony Bennett or the ladies on The View, she could follow their every thought and action if she learned how to follow someone on Twitter. See, Grandma, Twitter is just today’s way of staying in touch with millions.

Facebook is one of the fastest growing social networking website on the World Wide Web. There are many different ways to benefit from Facebook including social benefits, academic benefits, and even business opportunities. Facebook is one of the fastest and easiest ways to keep in touch with your friends and acquaintances online these days. The website features hundreds of thousands of users, a simple yet effective interface, and even has its own collection of games for you to play with your friends as well as hundreds of other types of neat internet applications.

Building up your group of friends on Facebook has never been easier. You can look up your friends by name, e-mail, and even the school they graduated from. Once you have connected with your friends on facebook, you can send e-mails through the site, post notes on their wall for all to see, and play games such as Farmville that promotes cooperation and community skills. Another great social feature of facebook are the groups that you can join.

Groups are online social clubs that center on a specific figure, object, or ideal. Not only is this a great way to meet new people who share the same interests as you, but it is also a powerful tool for online marketing. Large business gurus such as Wal-Mart and Mountain Dew have their own groups that people can join. They can then use this to announce special promotions, contests, or events. By doing so, you can easily increase business and you will find that your fan base grows exponentially each day.

Another great feature of facebook, and the main reason that many of my family members have signed up, is the ability to upload and share photos. True, there are certainly many photo sharing websites available to accomplish the same thing, but facebook is just very easy to use whatever your computer and internet skill level is and the photo sharing utilities are very easy to use. Plus, your family and friend that you choose to share with are notified automatically when anyone in your circle adds new photos to share. So, for us it is just easy and we get all of the other features of facebook in you want to use them.

So, whether you are looking for a way to connect with friends or are looking for a new way to promote your business, you should jump on the facebook bandwagon and join the thousands of other users just like yourself.

The history of the dog collar must have begun on the day when one lonesome hunter decided to try capturing a wild dog. That hunter lacked the advantage given to the present day cowboy. Not a single wild dog had a pair of horns.

Therefore, that lonesome hunter could not jump on a wild dog and grab its horns.
The determined hunter must have tracked a small pack of dogs. No doubt, he tried to identify the most docile dog in that pack. He planned carefully his method for moving on those dogs. “Collar one dog” is the phrase that best represents the probable thinking of that one lonely hunter. That wise hunter realized that it would be futile to try pulling on the ears of a wild dog.

That determined hunter must have worked one arm around the neck of a not too wild dog. Of course, that hunter could not hope to accomplish much, while his arm remained around that wild canine. Maybe that hunter grabbed a nearby vine. Maybe he worked his way over to a bush and broke off some of its branches. Somehow he found a way to design a make shift collar. That first collar might have failed to meet the standards associated with a good dog collar, but it was certainly a functional collar.

Maybe after that hunter had returned to his primitive dwelling, and had shown his wife the dog he had captured, did discussion begin about possible improvements on the animal’s barely functional collar. Maybe that discussion pushed the new dog owner to search for better collar making materials. Maybe he even showed an interest in some of the suggestions that came from his wife.

A Fancy Dog Collar

Slowly but surely, that hunter must have created and tested various types of collars. Of course, those first collars bore little resemblance to any fancy dog collar, such as might be sold in a present day pet supply store. Moreover, the hunter who invented that collar had no way to patent his invention. He could not profit from his invention.

Still, that hunter had certainly demonstrated the usefulness of his invention. He undoubtedly trained his new canine pet to resist fighting placement of that collar. Over time, he had most certainly discovered the various ways that a pet owner can take advantage of a dog collar. The dog owners of today benefit from that one hunter’s brave and bold move.
