Really Cheap Gaming – Buy Used

February 28, 2010

If you’re trying to keep a lid on the high cost of playing video games, you have a few options. The best way to keep down the expense is to buy used – used video game systems as well as used video games. Finding consoles that are open box, or played lightly, is not that hard, since gmaers upgrade all the time. For example, when Sony came out with Playstation 3, there were millions of people who no longer wanted their PS2, which can be bought online or in stores for a huge discount. The same thing is true of the Xbox, which was followed bby the Xbox Elite system. Most well known probably is the Nintendo Gamecube System which was replaced by the Nintendo Wii. There was no reason to stop producing the Gamecube, other than that Nintendo wanted to sell people brand new systems – and the motion controller was a new twist. But today, there are thousands of used Gamecube systems available for less than $50, all of which still work fine, and play games that are just as much fun as newer releases.

As with consoles, there are also millions of used games available. You can see cutout bins in every store and find just about any title at a huge discount online as well. Not just older system games, like PS2 games or Gamecube games, but also games for new systems like Xbox and Wii, as players resell games they’re tired of. For games that retail at around $50, you can buy these same games for as mch as half price when you shop for used video games online.

And don’t forget that you can rent games too – there are Xbox, PS3, PS2 and Wii games for rent, as well as Gamecube games and games for handheld systems like the PSP. Some rental services like GameFly will sell you the rented game for a “used” price – which can be a big discount.

If you want to save money (and don’t need the latest XBox Kinect games) and still have an excellent gaming experience, look for used video game consoles and games to help your gaming dollar go farther.
