RPG Games: The Best PC Games

January 20, 2010

RPG PC games have been around in popular gaming since the 1980s. From Diablo to Mass Effect to the newest Kinect games on the horizon, these games allow you to become a mighty hero or evil villain and fight your enemies how you see fit.

The usual trait of an RPG game is the ability to create your own character and then upon gaining experience, by killing bad dudes and completing missions, craft this character to your will. Usually when you reach a new level you will be provided with the option to choose or increase new skills and will also be able to use more advanced weapons and armour.

World of Warcraft is one of the best examples of why RPG games are the greatest even if it’s not to your taste. The major thing that makes World of Warcraft one of the top RPG games for PC is the fact that it allows the player to progress in so many different ways. Buy leveling up you can choose different talent paths, learn skills, wear better equipment and make more powerful equipment. You can also spend countless hours battling it out in the PvP arena to unlock a whole other range of powerful equipment.

Most FPS and RTS games have now included popular elements that were born from RPG games. You are now able to gain experience points and level up in these games allowing you to unlock more weapons and equipment. Another example of how the progressive nature of RPGs is appealing to all players.

If you think that you might be interested in playing an RPG game I recommend trying out Fallout 3 or Oblivion. If you have a lot of time on your hands, give World of Warcraft or Everquest a go too for some online action. For an RTS with some RPG elements give Battlefield 2142 a play.

Oblivion is a great starter game on whatever platform you choose. Here is a great intro to this RPG masterpiece:
